Bloody lovely bike. My blue Yamaha XT600 was a brilliant bit of kit. While it would not win any awards for its outright performance, it was solid, reliable and uncomplicated making it the perfect example of the back to basics trail bikes of the ‘90s. Fitted with knobbly tyres, the soft suspension and sightly lacking brakes might feel a little out of their element on the road – but with a top speed of 80mph and all-day comfort, we did cover some big miles together. There’s very little to grumble about with the XT. I had the suspension swapped for a Nitron and front fork spring and fork oil changed on my bike and when I checked the UK Gov website she is still going strong out there. A cracking bike.
